The permanent residents have always worked in agriculture. Working the land is demanding work because although the land of Pelion is fertile it still needs the human touch to deliver its goods due to its steep geographical nature. Chestnuts, cherries, pears and the famous apples of Pelion are just a few indicative examples of the fertility of Pelion’s land.
Apart from agriculture, the residents of the area have turned to tourism as well in recent years. Local food of Pelion is served at the traditional taverns and restaurants, in combination with other fresh goods and local wines, also tsipouro and traditional preserved sweet fruits.
